ROV surveys are a cost effective solution when an individual feature requires inspection. They offer a cheaper and safer alternative to using divers.
Without any disruption, or loss of water, the ROV can be used to inspect the feature and a specific report prepared.
For instance, refurbishment of a valve or penstock may be under consideration. A reconnaissance inspection will give the team, tasked with carrying out the works, a good indication of what they will be faced with when the reservoir is drained down and handed over.
Pre-planning in this way reduces the risks of unforeseen problems.
This could save valuable downtime and also help set a realistic budget for the works in a less pressured environment.
Importantly the information will assist in the preparation of Health & Safety Risk Assessments and Method Statements for the works.
A number of surveys carried out in this way offer a very cost effective means of finding out in advance and planning accordingly.
Generally more than one individual feature reconnaissance would be carried out on one day, or the inspection would be incorporated into another work package to keep survey costs down.
