Design for Self-lay Organisations
Waterco is FULLY accredited in the design of water mains for self-lay organisations (SLO) under the Water Industry Registration Scheme (WIRS). WIRS is a scheme set up by Lloyd’s Register on behalf of Water UK and the water utilities to ensure competency of design and installation works prior to ownership transferring to the water company.
Traditionally developers have requisitioned water companies to design and lay the water mains and service connections for their sites. In an attempt to improve competition, developers are now given a choice about who they select to undertake these elements of work. Developers may now choose to install the assets themselves, employing an SLO to undertake the work on their behalf.
This method allows the developer to coordinate utility installations and control the programme.
Our team of engineers are experienced in providing fully compliant, cost effective designs. We offer two levels of service: Initial Bid Designs, used to give initial budget indications and Complete Detailed Designs which includes design approval by the water company.
We are currently the only UK company exclusively accredited for design and as such can work with self-lay contractors to provide designs as and when required removing any requirement for in-house expertise.
