Flood Consequences Assessments

Waterco have extensive experience of completing Flood Consequences Assessments (FCA) that are fully compliant with the Welsh Assembly Government’s Technical Advice Note 15: Development and Flood Risk (TAN15).

Over the past 5 years we have produced over 100 reports and being based in Wales, we have excellent links with all welsh local authorities and the Environment Agency Wales.

Waterco offers three levels of FCA reporting in line with TAN15 and will advise on which is most appropriate for your development.

The level of detail the FCA must cover is proportionate to the scale and nature of the development. For more information, please visit our Flood Risk Guidance page.

FCA Level 1 - Screening Study

  • Initial enquiry into whether there are any flooding or surface water management issues which require further consideration.

  • Ascertain if Level 2 study is required.

FCA Level 2 - Scoping Study

  • Qualitative appraisal of the sites flood risk and its potential impact elsewhere.

  • Production of a preliminary FCA report in accordance with TAN15.

FCA Level 3 - Detailed Study

  • Undertaken if the Environment Agency require further quantitative analysis.

  • Production of a full FCA report possibly including catchment analysis, hydraulic calculations and flood mitigation measures (specific contents determined after Environment Agency consultation).

  • Flood modelling for the potential risk onsite and offsite, is often included.
