Our guidance provides advice and support to the Lead Local Flood Authorities – the County, Unitary and Borough Councils across England and Wales – to undertake 'Preliminary Flood Risk Assessments'. These PFRAs are the first task required to implement the Flood Risk Regulations 2009. They involve an assessment of local flood risk, the preparation of a Preliminary Assessment Report and the identification of areas of significant flood risk, called Flood Risk Areas.

Planning Documents - PPS25, TAN15, SPP7

Every FRA or FCA we produce meets the requirements set out in the relevant flood risk planning statements.

In England the planning document is PPS25 (Planning Policy Statement 25 – Development and Flood Risk), whereas in Wales, it's the Welsh Assembly Governments TAN15 (Technical Advice Note 15 – Development and Flood Risk). In Scotland the Scottish Executive Development Department have produced SPP7 (Scottish Planning Policy 7 - Planning & Flooding).
